222 Lonsdale Street now holds RMIT administration offices across three levels, referred to as B106 of the main campus.

The fit-out was designed by ARM Architecture who took months of research to develop a design approach to fit the clients needs.

For part of the office and activities space, a long balcony was designed to add as a study and activity space for staff and students. Due to the height and opening to the street, a protection barrier was requested to fit within the balcony’s constraints and provide structural bracing for design walls.

To begin the project, the Fabcon team first made a custom safety cradle to reduce the risk of falling off the balcony’s edge. The pipe structure was delivered onsite and then cut and re-welded.

The project was a good example of thorough planning and efficient use of manpower and resources.
