For many of our projects, stairs have been a centrepiece of design by the architect. In many ways, their design can symbolically suggest discovery and a sense of freedom within an easy transition of distance. It purposefully captures the imagination of the occupants to feel connected to other spaces, and specific design elements can make it feel effortless.
The stair we recently installed at Bank Australia’s head office perfectly illustrates this design ethos. Its prominence in the room is readily felt from the deep continuous like stringer to the spandrel and elegant vertical lines of the

balustrade. Using a glistening white finish and a large radius turn on the switch-back invites the occupants to move between levels seamlessly. Further, subtle warm finishes in tactile areas such as the cork treads and Blackbutt wood handrail, which were custom-formed for the large radius, compliment the elegance of the stair.
